Bird population data: vector vs raster to minimize repetition

I am using ArcGIS 10.

I have a polygon vector shapefile. There are 100 sq km polygons. Each polygon location has an ID. Each ID may be repeated up to 10 times. Each of the features has attributes for a bird species and relative abundance of the species.

Ideally, I could just make a join but ArcGIS doesn't allow this kind of join.

So, I am wondering if there is a way in ArcGIS to either limit the repetition of the polygon overlap or to create a raster where the grid cell size is 100 sq km but is split between the different bird species. For example, the attributes of the grid would note that 40% is species A, 20% is species B, etc.

My dataset has 15246 features while there are probably only 100 square IDs.

Thanks!
