Greetings Guru's,
In our current setup, we used to have 10.1 SP1 ArcSDE, 10.3 ArcGIS Desktop SP1 and ArcGIS Server 10.3 on Linux operating system and Oracle 11g as RDBMS. we want to upgrade our geodatabase to version 10.3.
It is mentioned that all the application server connections must be migrated to direct connections. We have many Geological applications which are structured three tier architecture on Linux machines which do not have capability to direct connect to Geodatabase (oracle), thus utilizes ArcSDE application server service to connect.
Now the issue is how can we migrate to 10.3 geodatabase while these external application do not have direct connect option ?
Please suggest.
Thanks

If Application Server Connection is a necessity, then you cannot upgrade to 10.3.x. The highest you can upgrade that sde gdb is till 10.2.2 as that is the last version which supports ArcSDE Service creation.

Does an Oracle database stored on a Linux machine not support direct connections?
It does. The Geological Applications that they have doesn't support Direct Connection....hence this question.
