Hello everyone, my name is Ibrahim Ishaq, and I am a GIS Analyst currently based in Libya. I originally worked in Sudan, but due to the crisis there I had to pause my professional journey. Despite the challenges, my passion for GIS, mapping, and spatial analysis has only grown stronger over the years.

I have been deeply inspired by John Nelson—in fact, back in 2021 I read through his entire Adventures in Mapping blog, which left a lasting impact on me. That experience shaped my interest in blending spatial analysis with creative cartography, as well as my commitment to exploring national mapping projects and the untapped resource potential of my country.

When I graduated, Sudan was going through a period of political transformation and under strict U.S. sanctions, which limited access to technology. It was a frustrating time, being caught between my passion for this amazing field and the restrictions surrounding it. However, with Esri’s industry products being made freely available during the COVID-19 pandemic, I took the opportunity to sharpen my skills. This period significantly boosted my development, and I am proud of the growth I achieved—especially through building various educational applications across different industries.

Today, I am eager to connect with the wider Esri community, exchange knowledge, and learn from the pioneers who have inspired my journey, including John M. Nelson, Kenneth Field, Joseph Kerski, and Pokateo Maps.

I’m excited to be here with you all and look forward to learning, sharing, and contri

buting.
