I just took this exam today and was very surprised by the questions on the exam. I thought I was well prepared, and even retook some of the courses to help with studying. Surely enough, I did not pass the exam. I was able to pass on 2 of the 4 sections (Mapping and Visualization and Managing and Sharing Content), however those 2 are not as heavily weighted. The Process and Analysis section was close, but not a pass. I feel like the Learning Plan did not aid in preparing for what was going to be on the exam. Some of the exercises through the courses were applicable, but overall there were some questions I had no clue what the right answer was. The Learning Plan I took to help me Prepare was the ESRI GIS Fundamentals Foundation Certification 2024.
I saw a similar post regarding this topic. There are a lot of questions that test for ArcGIS Pro application, as in step by step how to do certain functions within the program. I've been doing GIS for 2 years, so I know a few basic functions. There were a couple coding questions as well, none of which I knew the answer to.
I was hoping to reach out to this community to see if there is any type of study guide for this exam. I do not feel like the Learning Plan lends to itself in preparation for taking this exam. I did not do any of the Instructor-led courses, I will note. The prices for taking those are a little too expensive.
Any type of help or suggestions are welcome. I love doing GIS work and it is of high value for where I work. Just wish there was another type of material that could better prepare those in the future for taking the Fundamentals Exam.

Thank you for reaching out with your feedback. The courses which are part of the learning plan are created independent of this exam and are added based on common themes that may be in the Exam Information Guide (EIG). The skills measured part of the EIG is what our exam questions are written to. Exam preparation is a balance between combining experience with information from many resources. Our Esri Exam Preparation Resources article explains that these resources and/or completing a learning plan will not guarantee a passing score on the exam.
We will be working to update this exam again this year. In fact, we have a blueprint survey that will open June 15th. In this survey, you can get a peak at the new blueprint of the exam and provide feedback. If you are able to wait to retake the exam, this new 2026 version will publish October 26th.
