Exam Purpose

The ArcGIS Enterprise Geodata Management Professional 2025 exam tests the candidates’ skills related to configuration, designing, data distribution, data loading, maintenance, versioning, archiving, and tuning of enterprise geodatabases. It expects the candidates to have at least 4 years of applied experience with geodatabases.

Target Candidate Audience

The ArcGIS Enterprise Geodata Management Professional 2025 exam is intended for candidates that typically have four years of applied experience and should be proficient in best practices and uses of ArcGIS related to the structure and function of enterprise geodatabases. Roles may include:

  • GIS Data Administrators
  • Database Administrators
  • GIS Administrators
  • GIS Analysts
  • GIS Data Managers
  • GIS Enterprise Architects

Description of Qualified Candidate

Qualified candidates should be proficient in best practices related to managing an enterprise geodatabase within a multi-user environment. This includes an understanding of the functionality and features of a geodatabase, such as configuration, data loading, maintenance, versioning (traditional and branch), archiving, tuning and data distribution. Candidates should have advanced experience with Esri's ArcGIS technology related to the structure and function of enterprise geodatabases.

Candidate Qualifications

A qualified candidate should be able to perform the following tasks:

  • Create and configure a geodatabase
  • Design a geodatabase (e.g., topology, attribute rules)
  • Manage data within a geodatabase or database
  • Perform geodatabase maintenance
  • Design versioning workflows (traditional and branch)
  • Troubleshoot geodatabase issues (versioning, performance, etc.)
  • Implement distributed data workflows
  • Implement and support geodatabase replication
  • Implement feature services to edit data
  • Choose and utilize the appropriate Data Store configuration
  • Use views and SQL statements to access databases directly
  • Understand the different types of backups and the potential for data loss with each
  • Implement geodatabase archiving
  • Migrate or upgrade a geodatabase
  • Query repository tables

The following tasks are considered beyond the knowledge, skills, and abilities of the qualified candidate:

  • Implement RDBMS replication or high availability
  • Configure database storage
  • Install and upgrade RDBMS
  • Troubleshoot system or network performance
  • Perform RDBMS tracing
  • Develop custom applications to access the Enterprise geodatabase
  • Explain the system requirements of Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMS) for use with ArcGIS products
  • Use of specific design tools (e.g., Sparx Enterprise Architect Tool, SQL server management tool, etc.)

A qualified candidate should be familiar with the following:

  • ArcGIS Enterprise 11.0- 11.4
  • ArcGIS Pro 3.0- 3.4

Skills Measured

Candidates should use the exam content sections below as a checklist to identify gaps between their knowledge and the skills measured by the exam. The relative weight indicates the approximate size of each section. It is recommended that preparation be focused in areas where knowledge gaps are found.

Design <Pending Blueprint Survey>

  • Determine the appropriate geodatabase strategy that meets defined requirements
  • Determine the appropriate data association options within a normalized data model
  • Determine the appropriate method to store and serve data
  • Determine the correct versioning and archiving workflow
  • Determine the correct data distribution solution

Configuration <Pending Blueprint Survey>

  • Determine how to create, enable, configure, and upgrade an enterprise geodatabase
  • Apply the correct data security model implementation
  • Apply the correct distributed data configuration
  • Manage mobile data workflows

Loading, Transferring, and Editing <Pending Blueprint Survey>

  • Understand the steps involved when using different data loading and updating options
  • Understand the implications of using SQL with geodatabase editing
  • Determine the correct workflow to migrate a geodatabase

Maintenance, Troubleshooting, and Performance <Pending Blueprint Survey>

  • Troubleshoot issues with an enterprise geodatabase (i.e., performance, data sync, versioning, etc.)
  • Locate and interpret information in geodatabase system tables
  • Determine the appropriate strategy to create and maintain indexes
  • Evaluate common connection or locking issues
  • Evaluate the application and workflow factors that affect database load and performance
