Create buffer zone for point along a line with a specific distance in ArcGIS

Given I have a line and several points on it. How can I create a buffer zone for each point given a specific distance along the line at two directions? Thanks!

You appear to be describing an ellipse if you need to specify two distances (aka, semi-major and semi-minor axes)
