Convert in-memory layer to a shapefile using C#

Hello,

I have made an XYEvent layer from a table using code. The event layer is added to ArcMap, but this is an in-memory layer since it is not actually saved. I need to convert this layer to a shapefile using C#, which will then be added to the Table of Contents. Is there a link I could follow?
