Using the append tool with versioned data

I have feature classes in an SQL sde database that are in a child version of DEFAULT. What I want to do is append the features from one feature class into another. When I run the append tool in ArcMap (using only connections to my child version) the append still occurs on the DEFAULT.

Any idea what I am missing? I want this routine to be part of a python script that runs on a schedule. I need to work in a versioned environment to prevent conflicts.

Thanks,

Heather

Have you checked  'Move edits to base' option while registering the feature class as versioned?

Checking this option causes edits that have been saved to the DEFAULT version, whether edited directly or merged from other versions, to be saved in the base (business) tables. Edits to other versions remain in the delta tables when you save.

Move to base.

For more information please refer following link:

ArcGIS Help (10.2, 10.2.1, and 10.2.2)

Hope this is helpful

Are you sure you are connected to the child version?  In the ArcMap table of contents click on the List by Source button.  You should see the name of the version you are connected to at the top.
