I've got a few pieces of data in coverages that need to be loaded into SDE.  Most of them are polygons and some of them have what are best known as "donut holes" which are filled with blank polygons that I do not wish to be loaded.

The data loading wizard allows me to load features that satisfy a query, but cov2sde does not look like it does.  Is there a reason why or is there some sort of workaround for this?  I was looking to automate this process via a shell script.

It's probably not wise to plan future operations around an elderly utility like 'cov2sde' (which isn't
available on a number of platforms).  Whipping up a Python script is a much more supportable
method for data transfer.

I can't help but wonder why you would need to script the conversion of coverages on a continuing
basis.  Either you've got a static collection, in which case scripting is a waste of time, or you've
got staff experienced in AML, and could export through a newer file format (like shapefiles), which
can be staged to be easier to import.
