Hi,

We have two ArcSDE 10.0 geodatabases sitting on MS SQL server 2008 configured exactly the same. The only difference is feature classes in each geodatabase have different owners. We have not versioned either database nor configured privileges for any database objects. Yet one of our user groups can only connect to one of the databases successfully using operating system authentication via ArcCatalog Direct Connect. When trying to connect to the other database they get insufficient permissions error.

I had windows Active Directory user groups set up at the domain level as follows ??GISadmin?? ??GISpower?? and ??GISusers??. Using MSSQL Server Management Studio 2008 logged in as Security Admin on the server. I added the ??GISusers?? login to the Server and mapped them to the two databases. Then I added the ??GISusers?? group as a user on both databases. When this user group tries to connect using ArcCatalog or ArcMap to the SDE Geodatabases using operating system authentication they can only connect to one of them successfully. When they attempt to connect to second SDE GDB they get the Insufficient Permissions error.

Why are they able to connect to one SDE Geodatabase and not the other?

Hi,

Are you sure the permissions or roles granted on both the databases are exactly the same?
You can also check if the Databases were created by the same user or not.

If both the geodatabases have the same configuration and privileges granted, then this shouldn't be  occurring.
