I have recently "upgrade" to 10.1 and my SDE still resides in 10.0 due to the requirement for a 64bit server with 10.1. This, we do not have yet. However all other products are now 10.1, the issue that I have is when i go to my database version/connection in ArcCatalog, r-click and select the manage menu, all option here are grayed out. I cannot register, unregister, analyze, etc.

Anyone know what I am missing or what the problem may be?

Cheers,

Mike

Hi,

I guess you need to check which user you are trying to perform these operations with, and whether the user has the necessary permissions.

Hi Mike,

Asrujit is correct, the operations you are mentioning (
register, unregister, analyze, etc) need to be done by the owner of the data. If you are not connected as the data owner the manage options will be greyed out.

Mike,

(hopefully my post isn't duplicated...my browser died in the middle of responding...)
Had you wanted to create a geodatabase version or register a dataset as versioned?  I wasn't sure if maybe you were actually looking to administer geodatabase versions, since you said you had right-clicked the database connection. But then you mentioned the Manage menu item, which is on the dataset context menu, so maybe you were looking to version the dataset, in which case the previous posts answered your question.

BUT, if you meant you had wanted to create or manage geodatabase versions, right-click the database connection and point to Administration. The Administer Geodatabase menu item should be active.  At this level, there is no question of ownership; as long as you can connect and you are using Desktop Standard or Advanced, that menu item should be active.  When you click Administer Geodatabase, you can create and manage geodatabase versions.
