Is base map imagery orthorectified?

I assume that since I can take measurements using the Measure tool that the imagery is orthorectified but I cannot find a straight forward answer as to whether or not I can rely on the imagery as being true to what is on the ground.  Also, because the base map is titled "imagery" that means it is from a satellite.  Otherwise it would be called photography if it were taken from an aircraft? Thanks. - Sean

I've been using the Bing maps basemap. depending on where I am looking I change the basemap project in the Layer to the projection I use for other data. I usually use UTM. So if I know the area I'm looking in is UTM 13N I change the layer projection to UTM 13N. Worked for me so far!

On another note, don't always assume that imagery is only associated with data acquired from satellites. Digital aerial imagery is recorded with a digital camera from aircraft. I've gotten myself in trouble with folks before calling them digital photos whereas they apparently should be called digital imagery! Just passing on a lesson I learned the hard way, rather than calling you out on it...

Also, for basemaps such as Bing they use a combination of satellite imagery and aerial imagery and photos.
