My class project is to map out vacated properties in Providence, RI.  I want to be as accurate as possible, so I am building my address locator from 911 sites shapefile and then geocode the addresses from an Excel spreadsheet.  But I was having a lot of trouble loading the spreadsheet - its seems the connection between the folder where I am storing the spreadsheet and the map is broken!  What am I doing wrong?

Seems like a strange issue.  I would save your excel document as a csv in a folder that you already have connected inside ArcMap.

Hello Steven - thanks for responding to my question.

Actually I have successfully created the address locator and joined the

data from my spreadsheet.

However, I got a huge number of mismatches: about half of the 1217

properties on the list!

I've manually trying to rematch those properties by checking the addresses

/ zip codes on google maps. That works occasionally - 14 of 55 attempts so

far.

But that means the Interactive Rematch is not finding correct / corrected

addresses / zip codes 41 times.

Its a terribly laborious process. Any suggestions? Do tell.

And my thanks for all you do!

By 911 sites, I assume that's a point shapefile.  Did you create a general address locator from this?  Make sure the addresses in the 911 sites and excel document are formatted EXACTLY the same to get a good geocode.
