How to set permissions at the level of fields?

I have been looking up to ESRI if they can provide a solution through ArcMAP for the above requirement. I have already reviewed an article on the above (refer URL), but is there any possibility that ESRI is working on this in distant future. Any plans ?

I believe this is the most important requirement considering data security and management point of view.

Our solution is to break the attribute table apart and put the secured fields in a separate table that is related to the master feature class. You can then set all the necessary permissions on the related table(s).

Thanx Blake. I wanted it to be managed on a featureclass somehow.
