Geocoding "Not Responding"

Hello,

I've been trying to figure this out for the past week, largely using this forum as a resource without success.

My problem is that while geocoding more than a couple hundred of address, my ArcMAP software stops responding.  I give it some time but it is not going anywhere (and task manager shows it is not thinking).  I have made sure that my data is in DBF format and I've made my data headings as simple as possible (i.e. - no spaces or special characters).

I can break down my addresses by states and most of the time I am successful.  However this is only coding a couple hundred at once and my whole list is about 150k.  Also, if I combine a couple of states together (only 2,000), it also fails to complete.  I can geocode most smaller states individually, but when combined it freezes.  It seems that the bigger the list, the less likely it is to complete the task (regardless of the data), and it never freezes at the same point (it's very random).

I have re-installed the software and modified the registry (as suggested in another post) but that did not fix my problem.  I am using 10.1 and I am logged into ARCGIS online.  I have also both 10.1 geocoders and even older versions to no success.

Please help.  This has proved to be very frustrating.
Thanks in advance.

You might take a look at this thread and while it's not specific to your problem, respected colleague Kim O brings up an interesting point when she mentions:

Networks are just not fast enough with all the packing and unpacking to send each request in a reasonable time.

Could it be that you are bogging down on a network bottle neck when using ArcGIS Online?  I don't have any experience using the geocoding services provided online so maybe someone who does can chime in here.  (Perhaps a cross-post to the ArcGIS Online forum could help.)
That should just about do it....

Thank you for the response and assistance.  I have actually looked at the thread so unfortunately it did not fix my problem but it did help in eliminating some factors.

Hopefully other's have suggestions as well.
