Exported GeoTIFF doesn't contain projection data

I've loaded several GEOTIFF files into ArcMap Version 9.2 and checked the resulting Data Frame Properties>Coordinate System (see below).  Then I exported the resulting map using File->Export Map and selected .tif as the file type specifying "Write Geo TIFF Tags on the Format page.  The resulting .tif file looks correct when viewed with an image viewing tool (like Windows Photo Viewer), but when I try to load it into ArcMap (or Global Mapper), I get "Unknown Spatial Reference" dialog box with the message: "The following data sources you added are missing spatial reference information.  This data can be drawn in ArcMap, but cannot be projected:".

Why isn't the spatial reference data being exported when I run Export Map?
