We have several staff members who want to build their own projects using ArcMap, but we don't want to provide them edit capabilities.  Can this be simply done with read-only file restrictions etc., or is there a best practice method for doing this?  Thank you!

Hi Dan,

If the data is a shapefile or a File Geodatabase Feature Class, yes you can simply apply read-only access to the directory and the user will not be able to edit the data.

Thank you very much for the quick response Jake!  We are using primarily File GDBs, so that's how we'll handle it for now.  Thanks again.  -Dan
