We have recently upgraded to ArcSDE / Desktops 10 SP5, in addition to moving ArcSDE to another server, along with ArcGIS Server 10 SP5. Our database is Oracle 11g. We have confirmed that the permissions on the database are correct. Occassionally, ArcSDE will lock a feature dataset, and need to be restarted.
Is there anything we can check to see why this may be happening?
OK. I think I know why this is happening now. It appears, based on the feature datasets' feature class contents, that my ArcGIS Server map service is locking them. So, I guess it is necessary to stop all map services in order to change the schema of data within a locked feature dataset.
Barry- just one of the many reasons why I don't like using feature datasets in a SDE database. They just don't play well together at a number of levels....
