Architecture and Licensing Question

I am moving my SDE Geodatabase (SQL Server Express 2008 R2) from one Server to two Server Machines.

The new Server Architecture will consist of:

- A Test Server

- A Production Server

- Full Version of SQL Server 2008 R2 loaded on each machine

The advantage of this new architecture is I will have 2 Servers; one for testing purposes, and the other for production.

The data is used for internal purposes. Nothing for the public.

Currently, I only have 1 ArcGIS for Server (Advanced) License.

Questions:

1) Will I be required to install ArcSDE on the Test Server AND Production Server?

2) Will I require a second ArcSDE License?

Tim,

1. It is not necessary to install ArcSDE starting from 10.1...you only need to install ArcSDE if you want to use the ArcSDE Commandline tools or the ArcSDE services.

2. You can use your existing ArcSDE license if they have not expired w/o any issues.
