Adding a county to an existing shapefile

Very basic question as it's been years since I used ArcView. 

I need to add a county to an existing shapefile.  What is the easiest way to do so?

Use the Append Tool if you want to add it to the existing shapefile

If you want to make a new shapefile from the two, use the Merge Tool.

Is the county in a shapefile? If the files are in the same format, you could use Append, or copy/paste.

You can start an editing session and then add it through that.

If you have a different shapefile that has the county you want to add already, you can use the append or merge tool.
