My story map wont open after I made it. It just shows the loading sign. I have tried it on different browsers and on both PCs and Macs. What do I do?

Hi Katrina

I would start by going to the My Stories section of our website and pressing the Check Stories button to get a health check of your story map. This will tell you if everything is shared correctly. For example if you have shared your story publicly, it will check that all the content can be accessed publicly too. For help on Geonet it is useful if you let us know which of the eight Story Map apps you are using, and also if you can post a link to your story map, assuming it is shared publicly and you are OK sharing it publicly.

Hi Rupert,

I did the check stories option and it said that there were no issues.I used the Cascade story map option.

here is the link to my story map.

Thank you for your help.

I am having trouble opening it though, it only shows the orange loading sign, so you might have trouble opening it too.

Hi Katrina,

Did you ever edit your story outside of the cascade builder? It looks like you have invalid characters in your configuration that is causes the app to fail. We should be able to fix it. Are you familiar with the AGO Assistant: ArcGIS Online Assistant?

Katrina, can you confirm if you edited the story outside the cascade builder? If there is a bug that allows invalid characters to be added, we want to make sure we fix that in an update.

All stories save their content in a JSON formatted text file on ArcGIS Online. The AGO assistant allows you the edit the underlying text file before it is parsed so we can hopefully fix the issue.

Steps to fix your story:

1. Log in to ArcGIS Online Assistant  with your ArcGIS Online account.

2. Click the option to "View an Item's JSON"

3. Select the Casade Story from the side panel:

4. Scroll down to the "Data" section, click the copy button and paste it into notepad or another text editor to create a backup of your original story.

5. Finally, click the "Edit" button and replace your configuration with the corrected one below. If you're using Chrome, you can right-click and choose "Paste and Match Style" to clear the formatting. Otherwise, paste this code into a text editor first and then copy it from the text editor and paste it in AGO Assistant to replace the current configuration (clears the extra html formatting). Click the save button then open your cascade story to see if it is fixed.

I don't know if I edited it outside of cascade builder. I copied and pasted

my citations, does that count?
