We are having a problem with an ArcReader installation. Everything seems to install fine. However, when we start the program, it gives an error of, "The application failed to initialize properly (0x000001d). Click OK to terminate the application".

Does anyone know what's going on here?

I am encountering the same problem with ArcReader (just downloaded, over a year after initial post to this thread) and similar startup failure with ArcGIS Desktop.

Try the steps in this link http://resources.arcgis.com/content/kbase?fa=articleShow&d=34472. That seemed to do the trick for us.

Thanks. Tried it but it didn't work. I have Windows XP SP3, 32-bit. dao350.dll is not on my machine so the first step failed. dao360.dll is present and that step worked. However, ArcReader 10 still fails on startup with "The applicatin failed to initialize properly (0xc000001d). Click on OK to terminate the application." I'm uninstalling it. It's not worth it.

I'm having the same issues, another six months later.  I am not able to reach anyone in tech support and will continue work with the Google API.  I have a huge amount of respect for Jack and the people at ESRI, but unless they improve their software and operations, they will continue to lose developers and customers.
