In ArcPad 8 & ArcGIS 9.3 when using shape files, if my link to check my data back in is broken, I had the "import arcpad shape file and gpscorrect ssf file" option.  Atleast I could get the data off the mobile device.  Now in ArcPad 10, I will have to use the AXF format.  What can I do when my link to check-in is broken?  How can I get my data back to my geodatabase?  Any suggestions?

You cry.

The link will not break. It just can't. As long as you have a geodatabase in the same location that you checked out, all is good. You can even delete the GDB and put a new one in its place and it has worked for me.

Now, if you were to change the location of the GDB, you might be able to go into the .axf and change the checkin GDB, but I haven't tried it. The .axf is just a SQL compact file. You can go into ArcPad Studio and snoop around all of the tables and find the connection string to the GDB. That might work, but I'm not sure.

If all else fails, you can just export the data as a shape file and import it into your GDB.

I had the link break with the check out to shape files so often that I have been hesitant to move forward without a backup plan.  If the axf check-out/ check-in is much more stable, I guess it is time to move forward.

Thanks!!

seems to be, and if all else fails, you have the power of sql behind you.

No relationships right?

I just upgraded my OS to Windows 7. I have ArcPad files checked out from before my upgrade. I'm trying to check the files in and the option to do that on the toolbar is greyed out. How can I get the files checked in?

Make sure that the ArcPad data manager extension is enabled in both ArcCatalog and ArcMap
