Hi! I have shape file at my project which has a number to Road and to RoadPart and RoadLength. Example: (Road) 69, (RoadPart) 1, (RoadLength)0-5000 meters. So the road identity is: 69 1 5000. I have a shape file where i make observations (points shape) and i want that the program would automatically calculate the nearest point to the road.
That example road was 69 1 5000 meters long and if i come from the start of the road about 1000 meters it would calculate the point shapefile the nearest Road number, Road part number and Road length this case 1000 meters?

Hi,

I would think you have a couple of options to try and solve this.

You could:

  • Select the existing line that you have driven down, copy the line and use "split" it at the designated point. There is an applet available with ArcPad that shows how to use the Split functionality.

  • Create a new feature "in memory" or a graphic layer. Select the start point, drive down the road and then every time you drive passed a vertex of the existing line copy it to your new line.

i hope this helps. Let me know if you need any other information.

Cheers,

Gareth
