ArcPad "Out of Memory" error

I'm running ArcPad 10.0 R4 on both a Juniper Mesa (Windows Mobile 6.5) and Juniper Archer (Windows Mobile 6.1). My map has a single point feature class, and I've checked out the schema only. When I load the map in ArcPad, I get an "Out of Memory" error. I've turned off all the extensions, and the error still occurs. When I jump out of ArcPad back to the home screen, ArcPad Today tells me that I have 83.17 MB of program memory free. So how can I be "out of memory?"

Any ideas what is causing this error, and/or how to fix it?

Douglas,

Can you share the data schema with Support for additional troubleshooting? Does your point feature class contain many fields, domains and/or subtypes? Did you checkout to shapefile or AXF format? Is data stored to main memory or SD card? Are any other programs running in the background? Does your ArcPad Today plugin contain any ArcPad App shortcuts? What ArcPad Extensions are turned on? Is the Mesa and Archer (Archer or Archer w/XF101) devices running latest available WinMo OS and GPS Firmware updates?

As you can see, there are many possible factors to low memory on Windows Mobile OS devices so if you're current in ArcPad maintenance, please contact Esri Support to submit a support interaction to work with ArcPad specialist to help you resolve this issue. Please let your analyst know to contact Denise King, Mobile DTL for ArcPad 10.0.4 memory tests to help in troubleshooting this behavior.

Denise

Hi, Denise:

I've attached a .zip file for the schema that is giving me the error. The feature class contains a number of fields, many of which have domains (but no subtypes). It doesn't seem like a lot, but then again, how many is too many? Incidentally, I

I checked the schema out to AXF format, rather than shapefiles. On the mobile device I was installing it on the main memory rather than SD card. Don't think there are any other programs running in the background, at least none that I'm starting manually. My ArcPad Today plugin only contains the default shortcut to ArcPad. The only extensions turned on are JPEG and JPEG2000.

As for the Windows Mobile OS, the Mesas are running version 6.5 and the Archer version 6.1. Suppose I could upgrade the Archer to 6.5, but that's also having trouble on the Mesas. And I have no idea where/how to check on the GPS firmware for either of these devices.

Am checking with my ESRI folks here to see if we are current in our ArcPad maintenance. If so, will submit a support request. But wanted to get you these answers and attachment without further delay.

Thanks in advance,

Doug

Doug, Is the data location in/near Alaska? What is coordinate system and projection information associated to data? Please provide copy of Map Package file or XML Workspace Document for additional review? You can email me the requested items directly to dking@esri.com.
