I have below questions regarding Run GP Service step in ArcGIS Workflow Manager v10.9.1.

  1. What is the recommended GP Service type for this Step, Asynchronous or Synchronous or Both?
  2. For Asynchronous GP Service, will the Step wait for GP Service to complete fully?
  3. Initially configured this step with a GP Service of type Asynchronous. Later, after few jobs got created, updated GP Service type from Asynchronous to Synchronous in ArcGIS Server Manager.
    1. Noticed a SEVERE entry in the WFM logs i.e., Error performing submit job operation Error handling service request :Request type is not supported. 'SubmitJob' synchronous GP service.
    2. Anything needs to be updated/changed in the Workflow Diagram corresponding to this Step to get rid of the above error?

Highly appreciate your response.

Thank you.

It’s unfortunate that no one has answered this question yet—I have similar concerns as you.

I have observed that when the GP Service is configured as Asynchronous, the step remains in a running state even after the GP task has completed its execution. However, when configured as Synchronous, I encounter a timeout issue in the logs (Submitted job failed: Request timeout to ---- after 120000 ms).

Additionally, with the Synchronous configuration, I am unable to track the GP Task status from Server Manager → Site → Jobs.

If your task completes within a few seconds, using the Synchronous type is recommended. However, for longer-running tasks, the recommended GP Service type for the Run GP Service Step is Asynchronous. I would suggest conducting further research to determine the best approach based on your specific use case.
