Notifications won't send after they are customized

Without any changes, my job notifications all sent and worked normally.  After making modifications (no matter what the modification is), any notification I've changed no longer functions.  I've tried everything to turn them back on, including changing the notification back to the original version, deleting the old notification and adding a new copy, and turning subscriptions on/off.  Why do they fail to send after I've modified them?

Have you turned on logging? If so, is there anything in the logs to give you some ideas as to what is going wrong?
