share state of map

Has anyone tried to share the state of a map?  I'm looking for a method were a user could send a link or something to another user that would replicate the settings of the first user (pan, zoom, layers turned on, etc.).

Seems like there should be a way to capture this from temporary internet files and overright 2nd users temporary internet files.
