I am currently using the free viewer provided by ESRI, I am thinking of downloading API for Flex application.  I know there is more options available using the API, but I'm not a programmer so I don't know if its worth the hassle to change to the API for Flex.

Is it difficult to migrate/convert to the API for Flex?  Any good suggestions on how to migrate/convert from the free viewer to API for Flex?

Thanks in advance for the suggestions/comments!

Todd,

The Flex API is the base that the free FlexViewer is built upon. The API allows you to build Flex GIS apps from scratch. The Viewer uses widgets and a kind of MVC design pattern. If you want to start building apps from scratch then I would suggest starting with the samples that esri have provided.

I would assume that you would recommend downloading/installing the Flex API Library?
