I have created a couple of Web Apps with ArcGIS Viewer for flex Application builder. I would like to use them on our ipad. But what I have read in a couple of post is that this is not possible and. is this true? And if so, what is the best alternative to getting our data onto mobile devices so that our field crews can access our apps that were created in ArcGis Viewer for flex Application builder.

Erik,

The "Frequently Asked Questions" (FAQ) will answer your questions:

http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/flex-viewer/concepts/01m3/01m300000004000000.htm

As you will see from the FAQ you would have to develop your own mobile app.

Don't forget to click the Mark as answer check on this post and to click the top arrow (promote).
Follow these steps as shown in the below graphic:

Thanks for that Robert. Let me ask you this. Our goal is to have our data stored in the "cloud". So is it possible then for them (the field guys) to go to the url created by the app builder and view the map. Or am I wasting my time messing around with the app builder and should be focusing my time on another way to push our data out to the field guys. We are a small organization and our field employees do not do any type of editing they simply just view our data and the linked images that we have. We currently have arcreader loaded on all the laptops and have a process where they can be updated. But we want to get away from that and have them accessing our data from the cloud using web maps.

Erik,

ESRI has a iPhone/iPad app that will be able to consume ArcGIS Online maps that your orginizational account is hosting. That way you do not have to even consider developing a mobile app. But yes flash player is a plugin that is not supported on apple devices, so building your web apps in app builder will be a waste of time if you want to consume the url on apple devices.

Again, Thanks Robert for all your help. One last question does android support flash plug-in? We are not committed to apple by any means. So if Android works we might just use them or any tabulate for that matter that does work we would consider.
Erik.

Erik,

Yes Android based devices ABSOLUTELY support flash player and thus you will be able to use a Flex Viewer site.

While some Android devices currently support Adobe Flash Player, I wouldn't recommend it as Adobe is discontinuing their development of the Flash Player for mobile browsers.

Adobe states the following in their road map: http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flashplatform/whitepapers/roadmap.html

Mobile
Flash Player 11.1 is the last release of the Flash Player plug-in for mobile browsers.
...

Adobe continues to actively invest in enabling developers to create and deploy Flash based content as mobile (and desktop) applications via Adobe AIR.

Android: Beginning August 15, 2012, the Flash Player plug-in for mobile browsers on Android will only be available on the Google Play Store for devices certified to run Flash Player and which are preinstalled with Flash Player. Flash Player is not supported on Android 4.1 and users should uninstall Flash Player prior to upgrading to Android 4.1.

For developers who need ongoing access to released versions of Flash Player for Android, those will remain available in the archive of released Flash Player versions at adobe.com/go/fp_archives. Installations made from the archive will not receive updates through the Google Play Store.

You can find more information on the Flash Player plug-in for mobile browsers for Android at adobe.com/go/fp_android_update.

Flash Player plug-in for Android is not supported or available for the Google Chrome browser on Android.

If you want to use web maps on iOS/Android, you can create Flex Mobile apps that run as "apps" (not in browser). This would require creating/compiling  your own application.

Or you can use the standard Esri apps for those devices.

Thanks for the info. But I am not a developer and have no programming skills that is why i like to use builder. So what you are saying is that I should not be using builder?
