ISSUE: Report Suddenly Not Generating

Just started getting this error today, even though nothing changed with the feature layer or the survey, won't even generate reports for surveys that had previously worked fine.  Has anyone else seen this issue?  The error is super weird and the spelling is off, it makes no sense.  Just started happening today but can't generate any reports either through Make.com or manually through the S123 dashboard.

Error when generating report:

"binde type esriFieldTypeDate for question start_time is not constist with feature layer field type esriFieldTypeString"

@cfransen ,

The Survey123 website just got an update yesterday, which may have caused this error.

Could you please share with us a minimum survey (or XLSForm file) and the report template that can reproduce this error?

@ZhifangWang

Attached is the XLS Form and the Report Template.  I highlighted the field that appears to be causing the issue on the XLS Form in Red.

Thank you for your prompt attention to this!

Hi @cfransen ,

Thank you for sharing the XLSForm and report template files.

We have identified the issue: it is caused by the "esriFieldTypeString" setting in the bind::esri:fieldType column for a "start" question type. The question in your survey uses the "time" setting in the bind::type column, which is essentially the same to a "start" question type.

We are currently working on a potential fix for this issue and will keep you updated on the progress.

Unfortunately, there is no easy workaround for this issue unless you remove the "esriFieldTypeString" setting in the bind::esri:fieldType column and republish the survey. However, please proceed with caution, as this action will change the underlying feature layer schema and may result in data loss.

@ZhifangWang Has there been any updates on this?  We can't generate reports and complete our invoicing.

We have experienced the same issue. We filed a tech support case and they found a typo in datatype within a field. The name of the datatype was supposed to be: "esriFieldTypeString" however, the letter "i" in "Field" was capitalized. We corrected the typo and republished our surveys and this resolved the issue. This error was in 6 surveys that were built for our agency by the ESRI Advantage Program and was not a problem until the Survey123 Update on 2/26/2025.

Thank you, I will check the punctuation to make sure that isn't the case!

Hi @cfransen

The fix for this issue is available at https://survey123beta.arcgis.com/. Could you please give it a try?

If this resolves the issue, we plan to update the Survey123 website by the end of this week.

Thanks,
Jody Zheng Liu
