I have a survey that I was using on my iPhone 6+. I was able to add pictures to my survey if I took the pictures while using the Survey. However, if I wanted to add a picture to the survey from my photo library (i.e. I had already taken the picture) I would get an error and the survey would not upload.

Is there a limitation on the picture format and\or size that would prevent Survey 123 from accepting iphone 6+ Live Photos?

Hi Matthew,

I'm able to submit Live Photos from my test phone.  This shouldn't be affecting your phone, but Survey123 doesn't support HEIC images that were introduced for iPhone 7/7+ and later with iOS 11.

I’m sorry. I had my phone version wrong – it is a iPhone 7+ and it is the HEIC format.

Is there any plans to adopt this version into supported formats?

We do plan on supporting HEIC in the future.  In the interim, you can set your phone to save JPEGs by going to 'Settings > Camera > Formats' and selecting 'Most Compatible'.

Good morning James,

Does Survey 123 support HEIC today?

Hi Adam,

Reading HEIC photos from the camera gallery was introduced in Survey123 3.0 (June 2018).  Note that it will convert the HEIC photos to JPEG for storage as attachments.

I know this is an older post, but the latest version of Survey123 does not seem to be accepting heic file types. We can select the photos from the gallery, but it will not submit the form unless we change the image to a jpg.

I ran into this as well, just started happening 2 days ago, never had an issue prior. The only work around I've got so far is to go into the camera format setting of the iPad and set it to only use "most compatible". Unfortunately this won't help with any previous pictures or anything in the local storage, but it may help moving forward. It's as if randomly Survey123 decided to stop converting HEIC to jpg for uploads.

It's been logged as a bug now. BUG-000168671

Hopefully they will get it fixed soon. We are using the workaround for now, but with over 150 iPads out there, it's been a bit of a pain to get everyone's settings switched over.

For what it's worth, this just started becoming an issue for me too. I was able to copy the data from the user's device, and was able to see copies of each HEIC image in jpg in the survey attachments folder. However, the submission error persisted nevertheless.
