error occurred when checking...cannot be found in the current parsing scope

I am trying to create a very simple report, literally two fields. One is a Category field that Survey123 has pre-set fields to choose from.
The second is a Notes field.
When I create a single report, it works and for 10 records I get 10 pages.
When I add $<$summary> and $</> i get the following error. It seems like such a no-brainer?
