Classic Story Maps had the ability to add custom HTML code and set CSS styling. I use that feature for tables in the paragraph block with map actions that link to specific locations within a map. Please bring that feature into the new Story Maps.
Viewing Story Maps from an accessibility standpoint, it would be extremely beneficial in making our projects accessible if we could adjust the color and width of the focus indicator. This is not just an issue in Story Maps but in Experience Builder too.
The second item that would be very helpful is having the ability to add a custom description for links. Presently, the links are announced as the word on the screen. Also, it would be helpful to screen reader users if "opens in new window" could be added to the links.
And lastly, I find that the directions that are provided to screen reader users are sometimes not helpful. For instance, the user may be told to press the enter key but enter does not work. It would be great to be able to customize this.
I have also have a few follow up questions for you:
Can you tell us more about what modifications you'd like to make for the focus indicator? Is the color not working with your theme? Do you feel the focus ring is too thick or too thin? What impact would being able to adjust this have on your readers?
Most sets of accessibility guidelines indicate that the link text should be sufficient to convey the purpose of a link. There are a few ways to provide additional text within a link that is only seen by screen readers, but these are not generally used or considered a best practice from our perspective. Are you doing this in other web content products? If so, can you share additional information or examples about this?
Typically, screen reader instructions come from the screen reader software itself and are not something the web page or content can change or influence. Can you provide an example of what you mean here?
It would be wonderful to have the flexibility to include a CSS script. There are many use cases for this; for instance, customising the colours of the map action buttons to correspond with the types of polygons for zooming in. If the button colours can be customised, they could also serve as a legend for that specific polygon. Having the ability to fine-tune such details would be highly appreciated.
