I would love to have the categories in my categorized map tour formattable as general headings in the Story Map so that it is easier for viewers to navigate to the different parts of the map tour from any point in the Story Map.
@HeatherSummer - Thanks for sharing this idea. One concern we have is that it could be confusing to drop a reader into the middle of a tour without any context. Would you be able to please provide some more information about your use case and how this ability would be helpful to you and/or your readers so we can better understand this request? Thanks!
@OwenGeo Sure thing...I am beginning to create a StoryMap with a categorized map tour of specimen trees in an arboretum. My categories will highlight different (but not spatially related) groupings of trees, ie. specimens of historical importance, specimens with unique horticultural traits, medicinal specimens, etc. There is not a sequential order of these specimens / categories that I want readers to follow, and specimens of all categories are scattered across the arboretum site. I was wanting my map categories to be headings at the top of the StoryMap so that if a reader was particularly interested in only the historical specimens at the arboretum, they could jump right to those, but I do see your point of not wanting readers to be confused without the context of the earlier background information in the StoryMap.
@HeatherSummer -- Thank you for providing additional information about your use case. That makes sense. We will keep an eye on this one to see if others are also interested in creating this type of experience.
Hi! I'm chiming in on this topic, as I am interested in seeing this implemented as well. My organization is using StoryMap tours to replace our Shortlist apps that are retiring early next year. Shortlist features categorized headers at the top of the page, so a similar option for StoryMap tour would help us maintain a similar look and feel as we migrate our apps over.
For example, one of our Shortlist apps features categories for recreation such as parks/playgrounds/tennis courts/trails/etc. Having navigation links at the top would allow users to quickly select and find the activity that they are looking for.
