I'm using the geocodeaddresses tool from ArcGIS to geocode observations. However, it's returning results outside of my area of interest. I only want it to search for possible matches within the specified city, and I'm not interested in matches outside of that city. Ideally, I'd like the tool to prioritize the city and state information over the rest of the data. Can anyone suggest how to achieve this?
The easiest way is to create a locator view and set the extents to your area of interest.
But how can i change the extent automatically for each case? I have multiple cities, im just not interested in any match outside that city extent, but im working with hundreds of cities. This is why i am looking for a parameter or automation that i would only considerer addresses inside that city to match.
You will need to use the multiple field input option and make sure you supply city, state and ZIP (or the equivalent internationally) and also specify only POI and Address categories, then the engine will make use of the values.
We are already using multiple attributes to obtain coordinates, but often the matching is done with a street outside the target municipality instead of one inside it. This situation happens thousands of times in our database. Consider this case, option B is appropriate while option A is not.
This looks like a quality problem for your country, can you open a support call and provide the analyst a sample of your data - thanks.
