The SQL reference for query expressions used in ArcGIS docs say:

Within ArcGIS Pro, the SQL expression dialog box can be found in the following locations:

...Use the Calculate Field geoprocessing tool to create an expression to perform simple or complex calculations on field values.

I want to use a .exp file as an expression in the Calculate Field tool to filter the rows that the field calculation will be applied to.

However, I don't see an option/button in the tool for loading a .exp query expression file. I only see an option to load a field calculation .cal file.

  1. Are SQL expressions as filters not supported in the Calculate Field GP tool?
  2. Are the docs trying to suggest that the .cal calculator script is a SQL expression, when SQL is chosen in the Expression Type parameter picklist?
  3. Why do the docs mention the "SQL expression dialog box"? I don't see SQL expression dialog box functionality anywhere in the tool.
