Could anyone kindly please provide me with detailed steps on how to create a map using ArcGIS Pro based on the following information:

As a GIS practitioner, you have been tasked with identifying a suitable site for a new solar-powered vegetation monitoring station. This station will monitor vegetation conditions and record key environmental variables over an extended period. Given that the site lacks access to electricity, the station must rely on solar power and be strategically located to maximise sunlight exposure.

The selection criteria for a suitable location are as follows:

• Located within the Newholme area (defined by the map extent of the Newholme Digital Elevation Model “nh_dem”).

• Situated at an elevation greater than 1,100 metres.

• Positioned on a north-westerly facing aspect (between 292.5 and 337.5 degrees, inclusive).

• On a slope not exceeding 12 degrees.

• Located in areas where vegetation is dominated by grasslands and grassy woodlands (classes 1, 2, and 3 in the veg_cover layer).

The map must be a production-quality map clearly highlighting the suitable locations for the monitoring station.

Please note that I already have the data to this exercise, however, I just need to know the detailed steps involved in accomplishing this specific task.

Thank you everyone and looking forward to your responses.

Kind regards,

Hi there,

Is your veg cover layer raster or vector? Have you tried anything in terms of a workflow yet?

Since most of the workflow is based on your DEM, you will be wanting to use raster analysis tools. I would start looking at how the Con tool and the Raster Calculator tool work. Here is a blog post that may be of use to you for how to use the Con tool for analysis: https://www.esri.com/arcgis-blog/products/analytics/analytics/performing-analysis-with-the-con-tool

You are going to want to somehow string together conditional statements to find the areas in your layers that meet your criteria. I would start with one criteria, "elevation > 1,100 meters", see if you can filter those areas in your data, then continue with the next condition.

Typically folks ask more specific questions in this forum - steps in their workflow that they are struggling with.. not coming up with an entire workflow for your project.
