what is the simplest way to resize a map frame in an existing layout?
instructions I've found online haven't been correct.

right click on Map Frame and select Edit Vertices

Right click the map frame in TOC and click properties or just use the resizing handles in the map.
how do you activate the resizing handles? I'm not getting them
I want to make the map frame bigger on the page/take up more of the page
you have to be in Layout view.
Once you have added a layer in Map View, Click Insert -> Layout View. Then click Map Frame and add the map view to the layout.
From there you should see the map handles
