Loading only features within extent (in map view - not in layout)

I am currently working with a large highway dataset from which I need to correct errors. This is done in stretches of 2km. I am looking for a way to only load the features within the current view extent - so I can only see the attributes within my range.

There are no definition queries I can use to do my checking. Only loading the attributes from the current extent would also hopefully improve my performance - i am working in a remote environment with poor performance.

I know it is possible to do such a thing for layout views, is it possible to do it in map view?

@Senseof - in your attribute table, bottom right is a button to apply a spatial filter on your attribute table to ONLY show records that are in the Map View extent.  See image below.

Does it help to turn off the Pro setting, "Make newly added layers visible by default"?

That should at least give you a minute to adjust your view before you turn on the layer.
