I've been trying to create a LAS Dataset for a set of 2511 individual LAS files. However when run the create LASD tool it seems to stop and call it a day after adding 2000 of the 2511 LAS files. I end up with a LASD containing only 2000 of the LAS files. No errors or warning messages produced, just says that the operation was sucessful. Is this limit expected behavior? If so, what would be the best way around it? Merging some of the LAS files, or is there another trick?

how much disk space does the raw files take?
generally 4-steps
1) use catalog to create an empty las dataset
2) use the las dataset properties option to populate the empty las dataset file
3) use the update statistics tool
4) use the build las dataset pyramid tool
did you try creating the las dataset without loading anything in it at first?

It worked, creating an empty set first, thanks! I wonder why the GP tool has a 2000 LAS limit.
that must be a bug
I used ArcGIS Pro 3.1 with those steps to process a recent delivery of lidar data for our city from nearmap (about 9,000 las files / 3TB raw / 127 Billion las points)
To get through the las dataset pyramid build, we had to bump up the ram to 64GB and pickup a thunderbolt 4 PCIe card and two 7TB SSD external drives (one for source and one for pro's scratch workspace)
That geo-processing tool completed successfully in 30 hours, the pyramid folder added another 2TB to the set
