Hi,

I am trying to do a Territory Analysis or 2 individual states. One is Georgia and one is Alabama. Is there a way to Only choose 1 state and show it? Right now if you look at the screenshot all I can do i zoom into the "Southern United States" template or layer. How can I just extract Georgia and show it large?

Select Georgia or you state of interest... right-click on the layer, choose Data, Export Data and save it as a new file ... either as a layer in a geodatabase or as a shapefile.  You can then remove the rest if you don't need it.  You can also "zoom to layer" if you want to keep the rest there but zoom quickly back to the state (in the right-click layer).

Ps, this is only one of many ways to do things... it really depends on what you ultimately want to do

If you are in ArcMap, you can right click on the layer, go to Properties and then click on the Definition Query tab. Here write a query (the syntax will depend on your naming conventions and such) that will look similar to STATE_NAME = 'Georgia'

Which layer are you referring to that I do all of this on? The only layer that has the properties is the "USA Counties" when I went to the Definition Query I did the "counties.STATE_NAME = 'Georgia'" and I still got the same results. Do I need to add another layer of some sort to do all of this in on a state level? I attached a screenshot of my table of contents. All I am wanting is just to show one state. Looks like I may need to download something else as a layer?

I don't see your screen shot of your TOC. In any case, you could add a US States layer. There are various ways of obtaining this. You could search in ArcGIS Online (in the Add Data button, drop down to Add Data from ArcGIS Online). Here is one I have used before:

https://services.arcgis.com/P3ePLMYs2RVChkJx/arcgis/rest/services/USA_States_Generalized/FeatureServ...

Or you could search in the Template data that comes when you install ArcGIS. Usually found in a similar place to here:

C:\Program Files (x86)\ArcGIS\Desktop10.3\TemplateData

Andy...if you just want one state...and one state only, try my suggestion, I suspect it is too early for you to get into definition queries etc etc. when all you want to do is make a basic labelled map without any bumph

Hi Andy,

Change the order of your layer by dragging states layer out of basemap layer. In the current situation you will not able to export it or run definition query on that as states layer is part of basemap layer.

After that do one of the following;

1. Select on state > right on states layer > Selection > Create layer from selected features.

2. Right on states layer > Properties > Run definition query

2. Select one state > right on states layer > Data > Export Data
