I am using the feature to polygon geoprocessing tool to convert enclosed contour lines into polygons. There is a checkbox to preserve attributes, but it now says that this is a legacy feature. Is there any way to make sure that the depth associated with each contour line is one of the attributes in the new polygon features? If not, does anyone know why this ability was removed? It doesn't make much sense to me.
It wasn't working, but here is a workaround
I discovered that I can cut several steps out of the process but just doing the polyline to polygon and then doing the spatial join from there, preserving all fields, no intermediate point creation and further copying of attributes.
On a related note, are there similar issues in the feature to line and feature to point tools, where you are unable to save attributes? And does anyone know if ESRI is going to fix it?
It's 2025 and this is still a problem for me too... ArcMap can do it, and Pro can't?! ESRI broke an old trusty feature and then won't replace it... I am actually kind of mad about it.
I have used the Feature To Polygon tool a million times over the years. If there's some attributes that's not needed after using the tool we can always edit the data later, so why remove the preserve attributes option?
This just caused me a great deal of extra work and time, so I'm quite furious.
Dont' mess with things that actually work!
