Why is making labels for a map in Arc so difficult for a newcomer to Arc, for a product that my company spends $1000s a year??

Sure, it's got an expression builder using both Arcade (and Python), but no hint about which arguments are required, for this requiring to find the web-page for Arcade reference, which is not just a single click from the expression builder but a Google search, and then with only the barest of information. Even the free QGIS in the desktop app describes what the function does, and lists all the arguments required. Drives me mad.

Hi Tom

You raise a great point.....

Firstly, I would suggest any new bit of professional software is tricky to get started with. Thankfully Esri provide lots and lots of free training for you at no cost.

Have a look here:

www.esri.com/training/Bookmark/FK3D2XRZYC

The above link takes you to the Esri Training website and the courses are filtered for ArcGIS Pro and "free". There is some good stuff there you might want to have a look at.

Secondly..... I agree that it would be nice to some definitions / brief documentation for functions you want to use. With that in mind how about you submit an "Idea" to that effect so the community can then vote on your excellent idea - the more votes it gets; the more traction it gets therefore the more likely that "idea" is then implemented within the software.

To get started in submitting an Idea have a look here:

ArcGIS Ideas - Esri Community

FYI - over 70 user ideas were implemented at ArcGIS Pro 3.5 so it is worth doing.

Good luck!!
