Hi

In QGIS it is possible to create point feature symbols that include

- a point to show the feature location

- an ellipse to show characteristics of the point, derived from feature attributes, and which draws the ellipse to be correctly sized according to the current zoom scale (note ability to select 'Metres at Scale' below and to source the relevant dimension from attributes)?

I have spent quite a bit of time trying to work out how to do this in ArcGIS pro without success.

Does anyone have way to replicate this kind of symbology in ArcGIS Pro? (Ideally attribute table parameters for ellipse width, length and rotation would drive the symbology.

Hi @Equis_GIS, I'm one of our Esri Community Managers, jumping in briefly: This is Esri's community forum for discussing Esri-related products and services. If you're specifically looking for QGIS information, I'd recommend posting your questions here: https://qgisforum.com/

Otherwise, any members of this community who have knowledge about how to do what you're looking for in ArcGIS Pro are of course welcome to extend guidance. All the best!

Hi
i ran into the same problem and found a solution. Under symbology -> properties -> structure i added a new symbol layer (fill layer). Then i added the effects donut, scale and rotate. With the donut effect you can define the line width, with scale you can create the scale of the minor and mayor axis of the ellipse.
Hope this helps!

Thanks Rebecca - your solution creates ellipses well enough, however in QGIS the ellipses are actually to scale relative to the map, i.e when you zoom in or out the symbols expand or shrink and stay to match the scale.  In your option the ellipses are the same size whatever the scale, unless I am doing something wrong?

Hello, thanks for the idea.
It s the same as Equip_GIS : ellipses are not scaled to the map.

=> I need to scale the ellipses to the current map (in my case in meter) and link the size and orientation to variables fields in the attribute table. I try to find a way but I really dont understand how we can do that in ArcGIS.

Can you precise ? 🙂
