So, I create a notebook in arcgis pro 2.5.2, open the catalog pane, click the notebook and ...

why is it a problem to open a notebook from a unc path?

I can't imagine I'm the first to run into this, could not find it here though, anyone who knows a way out of this?

regards,

Bert

For me, when I changed my default folder paths to mapped network path versus the full UNC, it fixed the issue. Backstory below:

I first encountered this error after I had changed my default Home Folder and Default Geodatabase in options. The issue persisted after I changed the paths back to what they were, but I first did this by using the full UNC. When I switched it to a mapped path pointing to the same network folder instead, I stopped getting the error. This could be because that specific project was originally set-up with the mapped path, I couldn't tell you. Just some additional information that may help some. I guess I would:

1) Ask myself if I changed the default paths anytime recently

2) Map that UNC to a drive g:\network folder and see if that works

Thanks everyone in this thread for your feedback and use cases.

Support for notebooks on UNC paths in Pro is planned for ArcGIS Pro 3.0.

It only took a little less than two years to decide that something as basic as UNC file path support might be helpful.
