I am trying to buffer Non-Fish streams in the WA Dept of National Resources (WADNR) Hydrology layer. I have broken the Non-Fish streams into two Types. Type A are those that directly intersect fish streams, Type B are those that do not.
I only need to buffer 500 feet down the stream, so for the Non-Fish Type A streams that are greater than 500 feet , this process is simple, as I just create points 500 feet down the line and split the line at those points, then buffer. Easy peasy. The issue I am running into are for the Non-Fish Type A stream segments that are less than 500 feet. For these I need to incorporate the distance down the Type B stream that is less than 500 feet.
E.g. Type A stream is 350 ft, I need to buffer that full 350 plus 150 of the Type B.
Any suggestions for how I would go about buffering along these instances that branch, while maintaining the 500 foot buffer distance down the stream?
