The explode multipart feature tool runs on doughnut hole polygons even though it really doesn’t do anything. When you reselect the polygon after it’s been exploded, there is still only 1 polygon feature. It would be great to get the “No multipart features selected.” error message when attempting to explode a doughnut hole polygon. A doughnut hole polygon is 1 polygon and ArcGIS software should treat it as singlepart.
