Cartograms are something that appear to have been missing from ArcGIS for quite sometime. Cartograms are more of a Cartographic type application. I consider though that some of the changes to the ArcGIS suite have been more focused on Cartographic aspects. So i would quite like to see this ability come to ArcGIS 10.

There is a Cartogram Geoprocessing Tool on ArcScripts.  It will work on ArcGIS 9.3 and 9.3.1.

I wrote 2 blog entries about using Cartograms in ArcMap for teaching and research purposes:

First:

and then, at the regional / state level:

This request might or might not refer to the English language use of 'cartogram' .. which does not correspond to e.g. Karto(dia)gramm .. js

ArcGIS really needs this functionality.  There is a script from 2009 that creates cartograms and it kinda works sometimes.

Also non-contiguous cartograms (Dorling cartograms) are needed!

Non-contiguous cartograms please! @JosephKerski do you by any chance have an update to your blog posts? I couldn't find them. Did you discuss non-contiguous cartograms, like Ken Fields' entry here?

Hi @FourCornersMapping !   I am teaching a GIS institute workshop in the 4 Corners in June !   Still no update on cartograms in ArcGIS Pro but I will re-nudge.   On the non contiguous cartograms, this is what I use for students to dig into in my courses:    https://www.bouncymaps.com/#!/bouncymaps/world/-2102779804     They have some oddities but they are suitable with the amount of time I allot for them in my courses and they meet the goals I have.

For contiguous until we get the ArcGIS Pro capability I am using www.worldmapper.org
