Whenever I add a feature layer I created in ArcGIS Online to a web map the entire screen/map goes white. Nothing I've tried restore the map works and I've had to restart dozens of maps because of this. What is the issue?

Hi Margo,

Our enterprise version changed from 10.5 to 10.9.

I see. Thanks! We just migrated from 10.9.1 to 11.3. But this is an old application built in Web AppBuilder Developer version. We are planning to rebuild it in Experience Builder but not soon. Let me poke around the Community and see if I can find any other information.

Thanks for providing the information!

I just had the same thing happen. I created the layer in AGOL itself rather than publishing from Pro. Added it to my webmap. No problems until I went to save. I got the message asking if I wanted to update sharing, I clicked OK, then the whole map went blank. Removing the new layer & resaving hasn't made it come back. Likewise, I tried deleting the layer completely from my content, but my original map is still blank. The styles pane still shows the symbology - the map is just blank. Screenshot attached.

Anyone solved this yet? Unfortunately, this fed a dashboard so beyond remaking the map & symbols, I'll need to reconnect all the dashboard elements.

Update on this one. In the web map, I deleted the problem layer and then added back a random new layer just to test what happened. The whole map came back in the web map viewer. It still did not show in my dashboard, however, so I had to add it as a new element & reconnect the dashboard elements. That's much better than recreating the map itself since there were custom symbols & filter expressions.

Odd thing, I had a list in the dashboard that would zoom on the old map when clicked. The map reappeared when I zoomed, but when I clicked the list item again to un-zoom, it went back to a blank map.

I had this same issue so came looking to the internet for help. @CherieBryant I had the same issue of deleting the problem layer didn't do anything, but adding another random layer helped like you said.

I realized the new layer I created was all the way zoomed out, so when adding it the whole map would zoom all the way out until it was white. I changed the extent of the layer to only be the area I need in the map, and when I re-added the layer it solved the issue for me!

I have had the same problem in Enterprise as well. It happens spontaneously where one or two layers will be impacted. Sometimes removing them and adding them back in works, other times it does not. Has anyone found a reliable solution? I have also tried adding a random layer into the map and then adding the other layers back in but it didn't work.  These layers are hosted on a different server (almost all of my content is) and it seems totally random. The same layer that gets impacted in one map appears fine in another map.

Hi,

I have had the same issue and I think what Kylie has mentioned above is the problem - the layer is making the map zoom so far out that the map goes white.  To solve this, I have gone into the settings for the layer in question (for me on Enterprise) and updated the Extent.  Now the layer will display when I add it to a map.
